CIME Software and Operating System Requirements

The following are the external system and software requirements for installing and running CESM.

• UNIX style operating system such as Linux, CNL, or AIX
• Perl v5.10.0 or newer
• LibXML
• CMake 2.8.6 or newer
• NetCDF 4.3.2 or newer, 4.3.3.1 recommended
• Subversion client version 1.4.2 or greater
• Fortran (2003 recommended, 90 required) and C compilers. Intel, Gnu, PGI (15.1+), and xlf are recommended compilers
• MPI (although CESM does not absolutely require it for running on one processor)
• PNetcdf 1.6.0 is required and 1.7.0 is recommended
• Python 2.7 or newer
• LAPACK or a vendor supplied equivalent
• ESMF 5.2.0 or newer (optional)
• Trilinos may be required for certain configurations
