# Definition: git status
The git status command is useful as it show the user the status of changed files, untracked changes, and what's going on within the staging area. <br>
Using the JupyterLab IDE, this same information can be accessed through viewing the Git tab, specifically in the Changes section of whatever branch you are working on.
