Installing Ansible

Prerequisites

We install ansible on a control node, which then uses SSH to communicate with managed hosts (devices we want to automate)

On Control Node

Python 2(version 2.7) or Python3(verssn 3.5 or higher)installed.

Windows is not supported for control node.

On Managed Host

For communication between managed host and control node SSH is required.

Python 2(version 2.7) or Python3(verssn 3.5 or higher)installed.

Fedora

sudo dnf install ansible

RHEL and CentOS

sudo yum install ansible

Ubuntu

sudo apt update

sudo apt install software-properties-common

sudo apt-add-repository --yes --update ppa:ansible/ansible

sudo apt install ansible

variables are defined using vars keyword. To call a variable anywhere in the playbook we have to use {{variable-name}}.

  • vars: variable_name: value

Project4

Creating an Encrypted File

ansible-vault create filename

Viewing an Encrypted File

ansible-vault view filename

Editing an Existing Encrypted File

ansible-vault edit filename

Encrypting and Decrypting an Existing File

ansible-vault encrypt filename
