LexDAO membership

Governance

LexDAO is a global community of legal engineers (US nonprofit unincorporated association, EU unregistered verein, CN unaffiliated 社会服务机构) with bylaws codified through a mix of social discourse and operative blockchain mechanisms. Membership is open (only need ETH address) with minimum requirements being declaration (in public social channel of your choice eg Twitter/QQ):

  • autonomy (I am not a bot and );
  • volition ({pledge, consent, accept} to join LexDAO);
  • optional nym (... as [penName]) for special cases where fear of prosecution is valid.

Membership Sets

Sets are any collection of members which have additional preconditions or ongoing requirements above and beyond normal membership as documented in the bylaws.

TBD ...insert diagram of existing membership sets, mainly US bar

Self-Management

As peers, members can:

  • nominate raids (synonym for projects) for others to participate;
  • vote on proposals to ratify transactions, revise bylaws, or rectify records (due to errors);
  • discuss on internal channels such legal engineering projects (whether commercial or otherwise) in confidence (eg Chatham House Rule).

Disputes are to be resolved as per membership bylaws with the default being {conciliation, mediation} during {community, private} meeting.

Ownership

  1. GitHub repo is collective property.
  2. Ownership of non-LexDAO repos is considered private property (unless indicated in LICENSE) but could be made available to members for peer review or other community feedback;
  3. LexDAO logo is a collective trademark, representing professional rigor in bridging from cryptographic protocols (eg DLT) to legal artifacts (eg title to NFT);
  4. Licensing of logo for commercial/endorsement purposes is restricted, currently
  1. Social channels are public commons (open to visitors) though access may be restricted to memberset(s);
  2. Any memberset may create segmented channels with access privileges as documented in bylaws or metadata.
