Why do we need sponsoring?

I won't write an essay as I prefer to keep things simple. These are the main reasons why we need your help to make this project successful:

  • There are big costs related to both development and testing:
    • We need to buy ISO standards in order to plan and create features according to the requirements (ISO standards are the main source of requirements for this project).
    • We need real devices for system testing purpose, otherwise we cannot guarantee the code will actually work in real life (that means with hardware).
  • If there is no guarantee of profit, there might be no contributors:
    • So far I do it voluntarily as I have vision and ambition to make the project come true. I cannot promise that I am capable to complete each task neither that I will do it forever. Implementation is related to additional costs and effort while there are little or no profit I get from continuing it, so have this in mind!
    • If there is nothing I can offer for new contributors, I cannot promise there will ever be any new contributors. If there are noone except me, then the quality of the product and its future relies on one person.
  • I care about quality, but quality has its price:
    • Quality products require testing. For testing reasons, we would need to outsource or buy some hardware devices.
    • I would like to make ISO 26262 tool qualification so the package can be used in development process within Automotive industry, but this definitely will not be done with money from my pocket. I will do everything I can to make it happen, but I have made bold statement that will be fully funded by sponsors.
  • Maintenance has its costs:
    • Regression testing will burn more and more resources with each additional feature. At some point, it has to be either be funded or we would not be able to execute full system tests anymore.

Why would you sponsor us?

  • Funding will speed up the development!
  • The more funds we get, the more functionalities will be delivered!
  • As a sponsor, your issues will be treated with higher priority.
  • As a key sponsor, you will be get user support.
  • More funds means better quality.
  • We need your help to make this happen!
  • You are a good person and you help others (especially those who are not paid for their effort)!
  • At some point maintenance costs will either be covered by sponsors or the project development will have to be stopped.
  • It is common good, so it seems fair to split the costs between the community that actually uses it.
