We support currently released Ruby versions from 2.1. The CI pipeline should test each of these. We decline to test 2.1, due to the complexity of the setup. In principle, it should still work, though we should probably drop support soon. JRuby 9.5 is also supported.

GitLab supports parsing coverage info directly from build output. This switches to using that mechanism instead of the network-dependant coveralls.

the old implementation gsubed the entire method list over and over again. it's unspeakably, horrifyingly faster to mutate the name we're going to check once. nothing scientific about this, but it speeds up my local test suite runs by at least a third.
