@mhmoodlan, thanks for opening this issue. I am translating the linear algebra sheet. Mathematical definitions seem to be easier to translate. I usually check Wikipedia which usually contains good translations. We have to be careful with the machine learning stuff.

BTW, since Arabic is from right to left we need to enclose each statement with

. You can check the Persian documents to have a better understanding.

أخشى أن أستعمل مصطلحات قد يستعمل الآخرون غيرها ونحن نقصد نفس المفهوم! علينا التنسيق جيدا، كما قال زيد، ويكيبيديا تعتبر مرجعا جيدا لاختيار الترجمات!
كذلك استعمال الحروف اللاتينية لأسماء المتغيرات يعقد التحرير، شخصيا لا أعلم كيف ستكون النتيجة.

there is a problem with the RTL layout when mixing the arabic words with latin notations, do you have any idea how I can fix this ?

@zaidalyafeai
Contributor

@moun3imy, thanks for bringing this in. I was planning to explain it ...

  1. Use an editor that supports RTL. For me I use the Facebook post editor
    image
  2. Copy the text to GitHub and enclose it with the <div dir="rtl"></div>. You will notice that the words will get scrambled, that is OK.
    image
  3. Commit the changes, you should see the output like this from right to left

image

  1. It is better to use Latex for mathematical operations rendering as you see in the screenshots. Just enclose it with the dollar signs. If you are not familiar with it you can just copy the formulas from the Persian cheatsheet

Salam guys!

@zaidalyafeai I also check the Wikipedia translation, for terms that I don't find a previous reliable translation I put the most relevant Arabic term that deliver the same meaning.

@qunaieer that is a very good idea. I am working on the deep learning file and will bring uncertain translations to here for discussion.

Kind regards!

It would be great if we ended up with such document. I didn't realize the size of the problem until now, having no standards for Arabic translation in this field is really limiting the amount of produced content.

Guys,
There is this Arabic-English-French Mathematics Dictionary that seems to be popular.
You can view/download the book at https://github.com/ForzaGreen/maths-arabic or directs links:

I saw it referenced in many places, like in this book or across wikipedia pages.
It's a bit old. So you may not find translations for new Machine Learning terms.
Enjoy !

تعريب المصطلحات من أكبر المشكلات، وأعتقد يجب أن يتوحد التعريب لكل الملفات حتى لا تكون مربكة.
لهذا قمت بعمل الملف التالي وجمعت فيه جميع المصطلحات في الملفات. آمل منكم المشاركة في تعريب المصطلحات حتى نتفع عليها. قمت بتعريب غالبية مصطلحات supervised learning.

Hello all, I was working the past two months with experts in the field (7 PhD holders in AI/ML) and translators to translate the terminologies the best we can. Please bear with me a little, we might finish within two weeks, we are in the revision stage. This should allow us to unify the translations.

mznmel commented Jan 17, 2019

Hi all,
AFAIK, Markdown ignores single line breaks, so it would be much easier to read and write translations if we add single newlines before and after the lines that contain equations.

For example:

ضرب المصفوفة $A \in \mathbb{R}^{n\times m}$ والمتجه $x \in \mathbb{R}^n$

can be written as:

ضرب المصفوفة
$A \in \mathbb{R}^{n\times m}$
والمتجه
$x \in \mathbb{R}^n$

Hello @zaidalyafeai @redouanelg @mhmoodlan @shervinea
The translation to Arabic was on hold for a long time. One of the main reasons is the lack of appropriate translations for ML terminologies. We have made a great progress with a group of ML experts and translated the most important terminologies, and post these translations to this webpage:
https://www.nmthgiat.com/terminology/

Please allow me to manage the work among us to be more organized, and to finish the work with unified and coherent translations and terminologies.

So, the files need to be work on are:
[ar] Supervised Learning
[ar] Unsupervised Learning
[ar] Deep Learning (finished)
[ar] Machine learning tips and tricks
[ar] Linear Algebra (finished)
[ar] Probabilities and Statistics

Although Deep Learning and Linear Algebra are finished, I suggest to review them again and use the agreed on terminologies to be coherent with the rest of the files. But, lets make this after we finish from the rest of the files.
So we have:
[ar] Supervised Learning (under translation)
[ar] Unsupervised Learning (translated - need a reviewer)
[ar] Machine learning tips and tricks (under translation)
[ar] Probabilities and Statistics (under translation)

I will shortly finish from translating [ar] Supervised Learning file.

Best regards,
Fares

I have finished translating [ar] Supervised Learning file, and created a pull request. Next, we need some one to revise the file.
I will review [ar] Unsupervised Learning file. How can I get the translated file? @shervinea

Thanks for the initiative and your credibility, @qunaieer.
I will try and continue from where this probability pull request #89 has finished off, waiting for the pull request owner to respond on the final status of his translation to avoid any redundancy.

I have done reviewing [ar] Unsupervised Learning file, and will start [ar] Machine learning tips and tricks.
copying @wydadman as he started on it a year ago #83 , please if you have some progress previously send it to me so I can complete on it, otherwise I will start afresh.
I will wait for a day then start working.

@mhmoodlan have you started working on [ar] Probabilities and Statistics?
If you have time, you can also review my translation: [ar] Supervised Learning.
Best regards.

yes, I am half way through [ar] Probabilities and Statistics.
seems like @zaidalyafeai is generously working on the review.

@qunaieer

Hello all,
I have finished from translating "Machine learning tips and tricks", and updated "Supervised Learning" after @zaidalyafeai review.
So, the current status is:
[ar] Supervised Learning (translated and reviewed)
[ar] Unsupervised Learning (translated and reviewed)
[ar] Deep Learning (finished)
[ar] Machine learning tips and tricks (translated - need a reviewer)
[ar] Linear Algebra (finished)
[ar] Probabilities and Statistics (under translation)

So, basically we only need to review one and complete the translation of the other and review it.

Thank you @zaidalyafeai
I will work on @mhmoodlan file review.

Meanwhile, can I suggest for @zaidalyafeai and @AmjadKhatabi to re-review the files you previously translated based on the agreed-upon terminologies on https://www.nmthgiat.com/terminology/ to unify the translations?, you might just make a quick check on the terminologies. I believe you finished the translations before the publication of the terminologies translations.

Hello,

I think all the files were translated and reviewed. We should be ready to merge them.
Note: one of the previously 2 merged files need to be updated with RTL tags as detailed here #84 (comment)

Thank you for merging the files. One of the old merged files had not tagged for RTL, I have fixed it and made a pull request (#198)
I have made correction to my name in the CONTRIBUTORS file (#197)
