@brisvag this PR starts the work of robustifying this for dtypes. Sorry it's a bit messy, had some unmerged changes from a plane ride a while ago and doing this between things on holiday 🙂
I'm still not sure whether we should accumulate by default in float64 and coerce back to the users dtype or just do it in whatever dtype the user provides, maybe with a warning?
It would be good to make sure rotation matrices can be of a different dtype to the images too, unsure whether that works yet.
