OI 2 Startup Procedures
Derived from Reference (a)
⚠ CAUTION ⚠ Only lift Spot with two people. The combined robot-arm assembly weighs nearly 90 pounds and is not ergonomic.
⚠ CAUTION ⚠ Only operate Spot in a controlled space to prevent bystander interaction.
- Unbox the robot per OI 4.4 (if necessary)
- Perform pre-startup inspection of the robot. This should include inspection of all robot body panels, inspection of cameras, and inspection of the battery and battery compartment. If an arm is installed on Spot then check that all of the arm's joints (including its gripper) are undamaged.
- If nothing appears abnormal, proceed to the remaining startup steps. If any abnormalities are found, correct them before proceeding.
- Confirm that the software versions shown on the robot and controller match.
- Make an entry in the physical Spot Usage Log paper provided nearby.
- Unplug the robot from Ethernet, power, and any other connections and properly reinstall port covers.
- Ensure all bystanders are aware the robot is being activated. If necessary, cordon off an area for the robot to operate in.
-
To power on Spot:
-
If a battery is not installed then install one per OI 5.1.1.
-
Once a battery is installed then ensure that the robot is disconnected from the power cable.
-
Check that the robot has enough charge for operation. If the battery's charge is below 40%, remove the battery per OI 5.1.2 and charge it before using the robot (or replace it with a more fully-charged battery). The battery's charge can be checked either via the indicator lights on the battery itself (the "State of Charge button next to teh lights will have to be pressed to get them to light up).
-
Press and hold the power button for two seconds. The fans should turn on and spin loudly for approximately two minutes while Spot's computers and WiFi network are booting.
-
-
Once the lights on the front of the robot are flashing rainbow and Spot's fans ramp down, connect the controller (the tablet that comes with Spot) as follows:
- Power on the controller and open the Spot app.
- Select the appropriate network to control the robot. See OI 6 for network configuration information.
- Select Spot's WiFi from the list of available WiFi networks.
- Enter the username and password for your specific Spot (this will either be a user username and password or an admin username and password).
- Select "Power On" on the controller.
-
Enable motor power by pressing the motor lockout button on the rear of the robot. Ensure that any bystanders are clear of Spot and that all operators are attentive. It is now possible for Spot to move unexpectedly and so it is necessary to watch it closely.
-
Once the motor lockout button is flashing red, turn motor power on using the controller.
-
Select the power icon, then slide the motor power toggle to 'on'. The button will flash faster and then turn solid red. This indicates that its motors are fully powered on and the robot is ready for use.
-
- Unplug the tablet and press the power button as shown below.
-
Swipe up from the lock screen and select the Spot app.
-
If needed, go to the Notes app and copy/paste the username and password for the Spot.
-
Proceed with robot startup.
