What can W3C do?

These are some ideas for how we could accelerate support for accessible authoring.

Tutorials

Create generic tutorials for ATAG specific problems, that we allow AT vendors to adapt from and make it specific.

Example 'problems' to make tutorials for:

  • do's/don'ts for an alt text input field
  • why and how to let authors pick a main element / other landsmarks
  • how to let authors reorder content / drag and drop)

List of accessble authoring tools

We would let AT vendors add to this list and self vet. This could provide an incentive for AT vendors to score well.

Questions for self vet process:

  • Do you provide guidance on how to implement accessibly?
  • Can users see document outline?
  • Does authoring interface work with keyboard?

Bring AT vendors together in a group

Having various AT vendors together in some sort of group will make adaption easier and if it is in public may also inspire others (Wilco said this worked well for ACT).
