Project Abstract

Polaris is a custodial wallet integrated with Polkadot's Asset Hub, enabling seamless interactions with multiple parachains. This wallet will support native DOT tokens, stablecoins (e.g., USDC, USDT), and other compatible assets. Users will have access to functionalities like yield farming, lending, borrowing, staking, and restaking across the Polkadot ecosystem.Polaris Wallet is designed to be the crypto wallet for Non-crypto-Native Users

Grant level

  • Level 1: Up to $10,000, 2 approvals
  • Level 2: Up to $30,000, 3 approvals
  • Level 3: Unlimited, 5 approvals (for >$100k: Web3 Foundation Council approval)

Application Checklist

  • The application template has been copied and aptly renamed (project_name.md).
  • I have read the application guidelines.
  • Payment details have been provided (Polkadot AssetHub (USDC & DOT) address in the application and bank details via email, if applicable).
  • I understand that an agreed upon percentage of each milestone will be paid in vested DOT, to the Polkadot address listed in the application.
  • I am aware that, in order to receive a grant, I (and the entity I represent) have to successfully complete a KYC/KYB check.
  • The software delivered for this grant will be released under an open-source license specified in the application.
  • The initial PR contains only one commit (squash and force-push if needed).
  • The grant will only be announced once the first milestone has been accepted (see the announcement guidelines).
  • I prefer the discussion of this application to take place in a private Element/Matrix channel. My username is: @montechstudios:matrix.org (change the homeserver if you use a different one)

Thanks for the application @MontechStudiosINC don't worry about the admin-review tag, we'll remove this on our end. I have a few initial questions/comments:

  • You specified 30% for vested DOT, but our guidelines require 50% or more to be paid in DOT. Would you be willing to up the percentage?
  • The delivery tables for M3 - M5 are incorrectly formatted. Can you fix these so they look like the tables in the template?
  • We're definitely interested in Asset Hub integrations, but the current price would require approval from the W3F council, in addition to the 5 approvals required from the grants committee. This could prove hard to get, especially from a team we haven't worked with before. If you can, I'd recommend splitting up the grant into two or more parts to get the price under $100k, and give us a chance to see some of your work first, before following up with a subsequent grant.

Hi @keeganquigley
Thank you for your feedback. We’ve made the following updates:
Vesting Percentage: We’ve adjusted our submission to meet the 50% DOT vesting requirement. The earlier mention of 30% was a mistake, and it’s now fixed.
Milestones 3-5 Formatting: We’ve corrected the formatting for Milestones 3-5 to match the template guidelines.
Budget Adjustment: We’ve adjusted our budget requirements
Case Studies: We’ve shared a document with case studies of our previous projects to showcase our experience and capabilities.

Hi @MontechStudiosINC, thanks for the application. I made some changes to the markdown, so the rendering should work now.

I have a couple of issues with the application. First, a lot of the deliverables don't have a specification and simply do not fit the scope of the Grants Program (see our guidelines and FAQ). For example, the design phase is usually not covered by the program. Second, we have already funded a good amount of wallets and I'm missing any kind of market analysis (as per our guidelines) to convince me that there is a critical mass of users who would switch. The How did you identify these needs? section of the application is simply empty. I'm not sure Snowbridge integration would be sufficient. Lastly, I don't see any Polkadot-related projects in your portfolio. What motivated you to start building on Polkadot?

Hi @semuelle,
Thank you for the thorough feedback. We’ll make the necessary updates to the markdown and remove the design phase as recommended.
Regarding your concerns:

  1. Deliverables and Scope: We’ll ensure that the deliverables align with the Grants Program by adding detailed specifications and re-scoping where necessary to comply with the guidelines.
  2. While it’s true that we haven’t launched a Polkadot project before, Montech has a strong track record of building on chains like Hedera, XRPL, Flow, and Celo +. We see this as a great opportunity to expand into the Polkadot ecosystem, leveraging our multi-chain experience to bring innovation to this ecosystem.
  3. We will revise the "How did you identify these needs?" section to better explain our research and motivation. Our focus is on addressing user experience and complexity, providing an easy-to-use custodial wallet for non-crypto-natives that makes onboarding & interacting with interacting with parachains.
  4. Snowbridge is a tool Polaris will integrate for NCN users to bridge assets over from ETH to DOT

Thanks for the changes @MontechStudiosINC additionally, we don't typically pay for designs. In fact we ask for UI wireframes/mockups and design prototypes to be provided upfront. Therefore would you be willing to remove milestone 2 and adjust the costs accordingly?

And then would love to see some rough mockups of what the wallet would look like.
