Internationalization

Which languages are supported and of what level?

XaoS has internationalized menus and tutorials. Translations for both are available in several languages: Czech, English, French, German, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Swedish and Vietnamese. Some of these languages are double checked (including Czech, English, French, German, Hungarian, Icelandic, Serbian, Swedish and Vietnamese), but the others require verifying if all menu items and tutorial texts are correctly translated.

Is your language already supported?

If yes, you can still double check if everything is correctly translated. We are thankful for any contribution.

If you have just 15 minutes to contribute...

  1. Please download XaoS for your platform.
  2. Install the program.
  3. Go through the menu system and verify if all texts are shown in your language (that is, not in English).
  4. If some texts are missing or you find some of the texts incorrect, please report it to us. Thank you!

If you have at least 30 minutes, but at most two hours to contribute...

  1. Please download XaoS for your platform.
  2. Install the program.
  3. Go through the menu system and verify if all texts are shown in your language (that is, not in English).
  4. If some texts are missing or you find some of the texts incorrect, please download Qt Linguist for Windows or Mac. For Linux, install it via the package manager of your system. Extract the file or run the installer and then start the Qt Linguist tool. Notes:
  • In the standalone zip for Windows, Qt Linguist is the file called linguist.exe in the bin directory.
  • Windows or Mac may report this file as unknown or possibly unsafe. This is a false positive report and the file is safe to use.
    • On Windows, click More Info and then Run Anyway.
    • On Mac, right click or Ctrl-click on the Qt Linguist icon and select Open from the menu, then click the Open at the prompt asking if you're sure you want to open it.
  1. Find your localization file and download it in the following way:
  • A localization file has the file extension .ts and it contains a two letter country code. If you need, for example, the Portuguese translation, its name is XaoS_pt.ts.
  • Open that file in your browser by clicking on its name and then click Raw.
  • Save the opened file with right-click in your browser.
  1. Open the file in Qt Linguist and check all localized texts by following this tutorial. In case updates or fixes are required, please go ahead.
  2. Save the file and open a new issue on GitHub by attaching your updated .ts file. Thank you!

If you have more than two hours...

Translation of the tutorials may need some more work. You find the available translations in the catalogs folder.

  1. Download the .cat file according to your language:
  • A localized catalog file has the file extension .cat and it contains a two letter country code. If you need, for example, the Portuguese translation, its name is pt.cat.
  • Open that file in your browser by clicking on its name and then click Raw.
  • Save the opened file with right-click in your browser.
  1. Open the file in your favorite text editor, for example, in Notepad. In case updates or fixes are required, please go ahead.
  2. Save the file and open a new issue on GitHub by attaching your updated .cat file. Thank you!

Is your language not yet supported?

In this case you may need to work a bit more. Please allow a few hours to go through these steps.

  1. Please download XaoS for your platform.
  2. Install the program.
  3. Check if your language is already listed at the menu translations. Please download it in the following way:
  • A localization file has the file extension .ts and it contains a two letter country code. If you need, for example, the Icelandic translation, its name is XaoS_is.ts. If you cannot find such a file, please contact us by reporting this issue, and please wait for further instructions.
  • In case the localization file for your language already exists, open that file in your browser by clicking on its name and then click Raw.
  • Save the opened file with right-click in your browser.
  1. Download Qt Linguist for Windows or Mac. For Linux, install it via the package manager of your system. Extract the file or run the installer and then start the Qt Linguist tool. Notes:
