Highlighted Functions and Changes in Behavior

Features

Operating System Support

  • RHEL 8.3

  • Beta support for SLES 12.4, SLES 15.1 (ppc64le), SLES 15.2 (x86_64)

  • Beta support for Oracle Linux 8.3 and 7.9

    • Basic diskfull and diskless provisioning is functional

Highlighted Changes

  • xNBA has been updated to an iPXE 1.20.1 base
  • Missing file elilo-x86.efi has been added to elilo-xcat-3.14-6_all.deb
  • RHEL 8: changed default diskfull partitioning from ext4 to xfs
  • RHEL 8: updated xcatsnap to search for files for collection from additional locations
  • SLES 12: changed default diskfull partitioning from btrfs to xfs for ppc64le
  • getinstdisk now supports OS install on nvme disks

  • Oct 31, 1999: xCAT 1.0 is born!
    xCAT started out as a project in IBM developed by Egan Ford. It was quickly adopted by customers and IBM manufacturing sites to rapidly deploy clusters.
