Motivation

This project is a mobile expo app meant to help become a quick tool for creating/importing and storing recipes.

• Storing recipes per account
• Login authentication with pkce oauth flow
• Registration by email
• Unlimited storage of recipes
• Search recipes by name or ingredient
• Taking photos of recipes
• Importing recipes from online websites
• Locate food related searches within the vicinity
• Editable recipes
• Save bookmarks for websites offline
• Delete recipes via swiping gestures

Technology Used

• Gcloud for backend handling authentication requests
• Express Node JS server running on cloud run instance for handling authentication logic
• CloudSQL using MySQL database for storing user recipes and authentication data
• Expo React native frontend for the mobile app
• Eslint

Challenges Faced

• Writing scraping algorithms for importing recipes from websites, I wrote a algorithm that parses the html tree structure for websites that do not use ld json data to save recipes
• Wrote OAuth2 pkce flow from scratch
