I'm Alice: mad scientist, product manager and documentation lead.
Since November 2020, I've been focused fulltime on building Bevy. If you're not familiar with it, Bevy's a fantastic open source Rust game engine: fast, ergonomic, wildly modular and ECS-first.
My time is currently split fairly evenly between:
- Building projects in Bevy (current one is an unannounced not-game project!).
- Maintaining Bevy itself.
These two activities synergize very effectively! I learn a ton about the practical limitations of the engine by using it in a serious commerical game, and I make improving the game easier by enhancing the engine it's built in.
Along the way, we release standalone open source tools that we find useful, like leafwing_input_manager or taffy, and contribute upstream to other great crates like winit and hexx.
On the Bevy team, I do a solid mix of:
- drafting, refining and critiquing RFCs that help build the foundational architecture of Bevy
- reviewing and merging PRs from our thriving community of hundreds of users
- defining useful work for our team by creating, refining and prioritizing issues
- onboarding and mentoring new contributors
- helping Bevy users directly, answering their questions and figuring out where our docs need more work
- documenting the engine, including writing and editing the Bevy book
This is my full-time career: your support lets me pay the bills, stay focused on Bevy, make fun, fascinating games and build awesome tools.
